Heavy Equipment Operator

SUMMARY

Heavy equipment operator responsibilities are carried out by a skilled person who does this job with safety and precision. He/she has the responsibility of operating a front-end loader with a fork attachment to handle, haul, load to truck or railcars, or stack on racks large diameter pipes up to 80 feet in length. He/she also has the responsibility of cleaning, maintaining and servicing the equipment to increase its life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

• Operate a front-end loader ensuring the equipment is managed in a safe and secure way to handle, haul, load, or stack large diameter pipes in a fast-paced environment
• Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment
• Perform periodical servicing checks and inform the management or repairmen the need for major repairs or maintenance
• Perform minor repair work as needed on the equipment
• Respond to signals and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them
• Operate the equipment manually and using electronic or technical methods of operation
• Maintain the cleanliness of the equipment
• Perform other duties, as and when assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 1+ years heavy equipment operation experience preferred
• Basic maintenance and repair of heavy equipment
• New methods and techniques of operation and the parts of the equipment
• Workplace safety practices
• Both manual and electronic operations
• Must possess a valid driver's license

• Must have physical ability to stand strenuous and dangerous work environment
• Possess physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment
• Ability to work in teams
• Ability to communicate and interact both verbally and written
• A keen eye to details and good decision-making skills
• Manage to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress
• Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner
• Possess a deep analytical understanding and problem-solving skills
• Devoted in following code of ethics
• Can work independently with minimum supervision
• Good relationship building ability
• Flexible to work odd hours

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work will be performed outside. Steel-toed boots, hard hat, and safety glasses are required PPE when not in a machine with ear (hearing) protection required in all areas of the OD Plant.
• The standard work week is Monday through Friday with hours determined by plant production and loading schedule. Generally, the work shift begins at 7 am.
• Lunch is 1/2 hour, paid unless leaving the campus. Breaks are taken as approved by supervision.
